These were some of the last words written in Laura’s journal as she took notes at the Women
of Faith conference in September 2006. We have tried to remember these words as we have
created the Leave a Legacy Foundation (formerly Laura’s Legacy Foundation). Laura lost her
six year battle with brain cancer on November 14, 2006 at the age of 30. Sitting around a
kitchen table six months later, a group of friends started this organization to honor the life of
Laura and strengthen the cancer resources in southwest Kansas. The foundation has evolved
over the years as we have realized we all have a “Laura” in our life – a sister, grandfather, mother,
son, father, child or best friend who has lost their courageous battle with cancer. The mission
of this foundation now is to honor the life of all our loved ones and continue to strengthen our
resources to fight cancer.
